Over the past few months All Hallows Church has been repeatedly targeted by metal thieves. They have stolen lead downpipes, lightning conductors, lead hoppers, lead gulley guttering and a gas pipe which lead to a dangerous build up of gas.
The Grade 1 listed church building now leaks and the interior is already suffering from water damage. The church is maintained entirely by the generosity of parishioners and appeals like this. We receive no help from any other source.
We have been given permission to replace the lead with alternative materials, however even these are costly. The lowest estimate for repairs is £35,000 of which only £5,000 will be covered by insurance. We are facing a shortfall of at least £30,000.
We have therefore launched an appeal to cover the repair work, which will enable this important building to remain open and watertight. Please help us to safeguard All Hallows for future generations. Thank you.
