Additional Information:
The speaker is Val Bott who has been studying the history of nursery gardens for some years, focussing on Middlesex parishes along the Thames from Hammersmith westwards.
Ms Bott will explain that the Greenings ran a nursery garden in Brentford End for most of the 18 th Century. The founder, Thomas Greening, specialised in fruit trees which he supplied far and wide.
He won a royal patent for his methods of grafting elm trees, then acquiring aristocratic and royal gardening contracts including with the predecessors of today’s Kew Gardens.
This talk is well illustrated, revealing details of work done in the current West London, all very apposite with the approach of spring when our thoughts turn to gardens after the winter.
